How to Improve Company Benefits Package For Better Employee Retention?

    [et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

In recent times, more and more businesses are offering employee benefits packages to ensure the interest of their talented employees and attract new ones. This makes it important for others to pull up their socks to improve their existing package to avoid losing their workers’ loyalty and productivity.

This package generally includes compensation in money, special perks, and rewards. However, those who do not want to spend money can always offer more leaves to compete with companies. More such ideas have been mentioned down here!

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

5 Ways to Improve Employee Benefits Package

It is important for company management to focus on improving its benefits package as the same helps them in many ways. For example, it helps improve the retention rate of the organization, as employees will be willing to stay in the company, aligning business needs with their targets, driving organizational goals, and building a better brand. Some effective ways to achieve this are:

    • Insurance Plans

Offering insurance plans to employees is a great way for companies to show they care about their employees. Under this plan, a specific amount is insured to cover their employees’ medical expenses. This backs up any loss incurred due to sudden death, disability, accidents, or dismemberment. Also, employers can cover other types of medical expenses, like biometric screening, dental check-ups, etc.

    • Corporate Discounts

Offer corporate discounts on the original price of certain goods and services (which generally include the items the organization deals in). These can only be availed by the company’s employees and are often used to test new products before launching them in the market.

    • Paid Leaves

When a company is a start-up or does not earn much profit, it becomes difficult to benefit employees in monetary terms. In this case, employers can give more paid leaves to compete in the face of paid vacation, sick leaves, parental leaves, etc.

Many corporates still do not realize the importance of parental leave, but employees must be given some time off to take care of their families and children to maintain a work-life balance.

    • Office Perks

To make the office a fun place to work in, many organizations design joyous activities. It includes playing board games, scheduling food events, and other parties. In fact, many workplaces have even incorporated nap rooms for better productivity.

    • Wellness Programs

It gives employees a sense of trust and valuation that the company cares for their health if it designs a wellness program for them. In addition, these programs also ensure their employees maintain a healthy way of living. This, in turn, improves productivity and retention rate. Some wellness programs one can launch are smoking cessation, gym memberships, weight-loss competition, health screening, etc.

What Is the Importance of Offering Employee Benefits Package?

When a business is small, and management is running a tight ship around, it may strike the mind whether the cost is worth it? The answer is yes. The employee benefits package is important for reasons like –

    • It minimizes employee turnaround time
    • Employers can attract the most talented employees
    • It boosts productivity as an employee feels happier and more loyal
    • The company can maintain better worker morale

As a result, leaving them feeling unappreciated.

So, what can a manager do to maintain their employee’s motivation and increase their retention rate?

Here are a few ways to give employees a sense of importance and job satisfaction. It lays down the path of career development for them and ensures the growth of both employees and the company.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

6 Ways to Help Employees Build Their Career While on Their Job

Here are six important ways describing how management can add to the professional advancement of their employees for a better future:

    • Understand the Employees’ Aspirations

Managers must take a personal interest in their employees’ near- and long-term aspirations. As a result, it gives them a better understanding of how to align and develop the skill of employees to achieve company priorities. In addition, when there is clear, consistent, and direct communication between the boss and their employees, workers feel more engaged and loyal.

    • Help Employees Find Their Fit into the Company

When an employee joins a company, he or she works in his or her shell or under the contribution of his or her team. Here, managers must help their employees see how they fit in the company to contribute to its vision, mission, and goal. This brings a sense of value to workers who work hard to connect their daily actions in contributing to the company’s overall growth.

    • Maintain a Work-Life Balance Within the Organisation

Recently as many companies adopted work from the home culture, it interfered in maintaining a work-life balance for employees. People working at home tend to save their energy to maintain a positive home environment. This blurs the line separating home and workplace.

So, while companies monitor the total hours worked by their employees every week, management must also ensure they are not burdening their employees. This maintains productivity level and the scope for career development.

    • Hold Training and Development Sessions Regularly

Regular training sessions and development programs are the basic steps to fuel employee career growth. Thankfully, virtual learning opportunities are affordable now and create the same result in nurturing employees’ needs and skills. Not only this, but it also helps the company keep up with the new advancements introduced in the industry.

    • Keep Rotating the Duties and Position of Employees

It is a general understanding that everyone knows that the human brain thrives on job rotation and variety. In other words, when management keeps shaking the daily routine of employees relating to working in different departments and under different roles, it helps them grab new skills and work for better career goals.

    • Be Clear About the Future of Employees

Last but the most important point is that management needs to keep reminding their employees how their contribution adds to the company’s mission. This further motivates them to advance in the organization and expand their responsibility.

Having a motivation strategy and all is good, but no employee likes to work in an organization that only cares about deliveries and not the needs of their workers. Thus, management needs to make an effort to improve their employees’ experience, and one of the perfect ways to do that is by introducing workplace flexibility.

The main reason behind this is employee flexibility directly depends on employee satisfaction. Want to know more? Then read further!

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

    What Is Workplace Flexibility?

Workplace flexibility means giving the employee a chance to work in a way that suits their personality and lifestyle. This means quitting the traditional 9 to 5 culture and bringing modern, flexible culture.

An organization must acknowledge that not all employees work their best at a specific time frame. While some concentrate better early, some need time to make themselves comfortable. The only important thing is that management gets their work on time. So, to incorporate such an environment, managers can make flexible arrangements in areas of –

    • Work shift
    • Remote working option
    • Family and medical leaves
    • Flexible arrival and departure time
    • Shared employment option
    • Part-time employment option
    • Sabbaticals
    • Caregiving leave
    • Unlimited paid time off

What Is the Importance of Workplace Flexibility, and How Does it Help?

If an organization implements workplace flexibility right, it benefits the company by improving its performance and bringing employee positivity. Find out more about its importance below:

    Reduces Burnout and Stress

The traditional corporate system often makes the working environment stressful in which everything is pre-decided for the employees when to arrive, when to submit a file, etc. But with improving flexibility, it is seen that employees maintain better mental health. They can curb their deliveries according to their schedule and perform even better.

    Better Employee Attendance

Another point that makes it important to make a workplace flexible is to increase the attendance of employees. Not only this, but it also reduces tardiness in the workplace. As a result, organization benefits by increasing their productivity scale.

Increase in Employee Satisfaction and Morale

When employees feel their needs matter to their organization, they feel more dedicated to work and accomplish their tasks. It increases their morale and even boosts employee engagement. Thus, the company benefits from the increased commitment of its workers.

    Create a Good Public Image

Bringing flexibility to workplace organization also creates a good image of itself in public. In other words, employers create a friendly image in front of their workers by giving employees the window to choose how, when, and where to work. This makes the company an ideal place to work, thus attracting more talents and improving productivity.

    Improved Employee Retention

Flexibility in a workplace and an adaptable approach foster a great sense of loyalty among employees. The reason behind this is employees can maintain their work-life balance and thus stay around for a longer period.

Generally speaking, the main reason for the switch of talented employees is they are either looking for a better opportunity or desire flexible working hours. So, if companies solve one of their problems, they can increase their employee retention rate.

It requires a lot of skill and experience to keep employees happy and help them provide their best at work. The state of Florida requires every employer to cover the workers’ compensation of their employees. However, the coverage requirement for an employee may differ from one employer to another. For example, it depends on the number of employees, type of industry, and entity organization.

Want to get more insight into how much your company is liable to pay as workers’ compensation? What if one does not meet it? Read along to find out more on this!

How Much Does a Trucking Business Have to Pay as Workers’ Compensation?

A business involved in a trucking operation must protect its employees from injuries and employers from a lawsuit by covering them under workers’ compensation insurance. According to the law, the minimum requirement is $ 100,000 per occurrence, $ 100,000 per occurrence by disease, and $ 500,000 aggregate.

However, this rate may vary depending on factors like –

    • Employee’s payroll
    • Location of business
    • Industry and its risk factors
    • Employee number
    • Claim history
    • Coverage limit

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

Who Gets Coverage under Workers’ Compensation?

If a business has four or more employees, it is mandatory to get workers’ compensation insurance. This insurance will cover the medical and hospital bills of the employees. In addition, it pays for temporary total disability costs, ambulance costs, and permanent disability. However, the truck driver must have got injured due to the following reasons only:

    • Injured while unloading or loading freight
    • Got wounded in an accident
    • Slipped and got injured while entering or getting out of the truck
    • Got hurt when carrying roadside repairs of the truck

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

What Happens in Case of the Non-Compliance with Workers’ Compensation Law?

Employers in the state of Florida who do not provide workers’ compensation to their employees attract several civil penalties. The most immediate one is that the company must stop its operation immediately until it complies with legal rules and pays the required penalties.

This penalty charge usually amounts to double the insurance premium payable by the employer for the previous two years. In addition, if the employer does not comply with this stop-work order, he or she may also be liable for criminal charges.

So, it is paramount for an employer to bear this cost. However, one can always reduce the burden by controlling the premium amount, incorporating cost-saving measures, and avoiding accidents.

How Can Companies Reduce Workers’ Compensation Cost?

The following are some practical ways that companies can adopt to reduce their workers’ compensation costs:

    • Introducing Safety Program

When companies take measures to avoid accidents even before they occur, it reduces their workers’ compensation cost-effectively. The best way to do so is by introducing a safety program to keep the employees safe. One can also take safety training at regular intervals for the purpose.

    • Implementing Return-To-Work Program

The claim becomes costlier day by day until the worker comes back to work. So, to save the company money, one must implement a return-to-work program either by allowing them to cover light-duty hours or work on a part-time basis. This also lowers the risk that employees might never return to work.

    • Partnering with a PEO

To help reduce the cost taking the help of a PEO can be an ideal decision. A PEO assists by maintaining a lower number of claims, looking after the company’s safety measures, and managing the worker code to reduce workers’ compensation insurance premiums.

Apart from reducing workers’ compensation costs, there are also other managerial areas in which a trusted PEO can help you. An internal audit measures an organization’s compliance with internal and external standards. With an internal audit checklist, a small-business owner can regularly validate a firm’s compliance with its procedures and policies.

The results of an internal audit flag potential noncompliance problems so that a company takes corrective action without the involvement of regulators. Entrepreneurs must note that their company does not require an audit committee or department to conduct an internal audit.

The first checklist that an organization requires is a list of the business functions that should be audited. Then, they must audit its management function. This is to make sure that the firm’s business plans are strategic and sound. Next, a firm must audit its operations to ensure that employees follow consistent processes to maximize performance. Finally, to guard against fraud, the organization audits the financial practices.

Management must repeat the audit process periodically to make sure that compliance continues.

A detailed insight into the audit checklist

Given below is a detailed insight into the audit checklist:

    • Operations Audit: To measure performance

An operations audit measures the performance of a business’s core function. The items on an operations audit’s checklist cover an assessment of the firm’s on-time service and goods delivery.

To elaborate, it implies whether a firm features sufficient contracts with its vendors, how it trains new employees, how it validates the effectiveness of training and maintains customer relationships, and so forth.

Additionally, an auditor looks into the effectiveness of an organization’s sales staff. It also gauges that the staff periodically updates their knowledge about competitors, markets, and related technology.

    • Management Audit: To validate an organization’s strategic plan

Management audit validates the strategic plan and structure of an organization. The auditor reviews the objectives and goals to ensure that the firm’s framework supports the goals. Similarly, the goals of every individual employee must be in line with the company’s overall goals. Additionally, the auditor analyses the company’s organizational charts and ensures that managers are accountable to the business owner and that employees are accountable for their performance.

    • Financial and Regulatory Audit: To evaluate the organization’s financial performance

Financial audit emphasizes regulatory requirements like tax filings and corporate governance.

An auditor verifies that the organization has secured the necessary permits and licenses to conduct business. He/she inspects an organization’s accounts. This is to make sure that the personal accounts and records are not commingled with business accounts and records. Also, it ensures that the accounting system comprises accurate information which is backed by source documents.

This type of audit also verifies that an organization calculates the wages of every employee accurately. In addition, it confirms that a firm makes the statutorily necessary payments for insurance and taxes and offers assured fringe benefits.

An audit checklist is basically a document developed during the audit planning stage. Essentially it is a list of tasks that should be completed as part of the audit. A majority of auditing software programs feature several standard audit checklist templates that can be utilized for various audits.

Business owners must note that if their enterprise lacks proper risk management, payroll, or HR infrastructure, they can face problems developing a quarterly audit checklist. For that matter, individuals can opt for us to manage these important areas. Additionally, they can go through our blogs if they are willing to know more about what we are up to.

Regardless of the size of a small business, the owner would have definitely developed workplace procedures, expectations, and policies either informally or formally. The employees must be aware and have a proper understanding of these to help run the company more effectively. Also, that goes a long way in ensuring that the organization does not break state or federal laws.

An employee handbook is basically a compilation of an organization’s protocols and policies and employees’ legal rights and obligations. Having this handbook helps communicate responsibilities and rules to employees.

Now, let’s dive in to gain insight into the various vital aspects of an employee handbook.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_video src=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCMMsJbV38w” _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_video][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

How to Create the Perfect Employee Handbook for Small Businesses?

Illustrated below are four steps that business owners can take to start the procedure of creating an employee handbook.

    • Begin with Values and Culture

Employee policies can include dress code, performance review procedure, attendance rules, etc. For business owners, thinking about the organization’s values and culture is a good place to begin when one is pondering over the employee policies.

Small business owners must consider their personal values and what they are willing to emphasize. They should also consider how to form a culture and value system that will help motivate the employees to deliver their best performance and work with the organization long-term.

It will indeed prove to be sensible if one drafts a mission statement prior to creating the employee procedures and policies.

    • Create the Policies

After clearly identifying the values, business owners can think about developing policies that are necessary for the organization’s functioning and will be embraced by employees.

    • Be Aware of Applicable Laws

An employee handbook is not a contract with the organization’s employees. But it does set expectations. Therefore, business owners should follow local, federal, and state laws while preparing some parts of this handbook. One can visit the state government’s web portal for a detailed description of the state’s laws.

    • Look into the Employee Handbook of Other Organizations

Business owners can look through employee handbooks and the policies of other organizations. But they must ensure that they don’t copy them entirely. Looking into them would plan out the procedures and policies. One can get access to a sample employee handbook via the internet itself.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″ custom_padding=”12px|||||”]

    Must-includes in an Employee Handbook

Given below are the essential elements that business owners must include in an employee handbook:

    • Workplace Security and Safety

To keep any potential litigation or confusion away, business owners must define the steps that they must take to keep the workplace (non-physical and physical) safe.

    • Social Media and Digital Conduct Policy

Business owners must define the way employees can (or cannot) represent and talk about the organization on social media.

    • Company Vision, Overview, Values, and Mission

Entrepreneurs should define the organization’s vision, purpose, and mission so that employees can be completely clear about and aligned with the firm’s values.

    • Perks, Compensation, and Benefits

Employees will probably navigate to this section first as it’s a crowd favorite. Regarding compensation, business owners must define how employees are paid, overtime policy, frequency and time of payment, and alternative compensation. For benefits, entrepreneurs must provide an overview of what they offer in terms of life insurance, retirement plans, etc.

    • Code of conduct

Some areas to cover within the code of conduct are customer privacy and data management, ethical policies and standards, conflict resolution policy, rest periods, meal breaks, etc.

Besides these, employers must also include equal opportunity and anti-discrimination policies, medical and family leave policies, hours of operation, Paid Time Off (PTO) and schedule, conflicts of interest and nondisclosure, and vital disclaimers.

Thus, business owners must keep in mind the points mentioned above while creating their employee handbooks. They must also note that if their company lacks proper infrastructure related to risk management, payroll, or HR, they can face problems related to creating the employee handbook. In that case, they can opt for us to manage these important areas. Further, they can go through our blogs if they are willing to know more about what we do.

One of those tasks includes planning payroll taxes of the employees in the organization. There are several vital aspects related to the whole process, and it is imperative for all business owners, especially the ones starting off, to have a clear understanding of these.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_video src=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCMMsJbV38w” _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_video][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”]

    Understanding Payroll Tax

Before knowing how to plan or calculate payroll tax, the foremost thing for an entrepreneur is to be aware of the key basic details regarding the same.

Employers withhold a percentage as payroll tax from employees’ pay and then pays it to the government on the latter’s behalf. This tax is based on salaries, tips and wages paid to employees.

Moreover, business owners must note that several laws exist that define whether or not a worker is subject to payroll taxes. In general, if an employer controls and directs not only the work results but how a worker does the work, then such a worker is classified as an employee and subject to payroll taxes. Otherwise, the worker may be considered an independent contractor and therefore not subject to payroll taxes. Part-time workers can be regarded as employees for payroll tax.

If a business owner fails to withhold taxes or misclassifies a worker as a contractor, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can impose penalties.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”]

    Calculating Payroll Tax

Business owners need to calculate payroll taxes using the employees’ total wage or gross earnings and several other deductions to compute the take-home or net pay. While this does sound simple, it demands attention and considerable accuracy.

To calculate net pay, business owners can apply the following formula:

Net pay = Employee’s gross pay (pay rate x number of hours worked) – statutory payroll tax deductions – voluntary payroll deductions.

As per the law, business owners need to withhold the statutory payroll tax deductions from the paycheck of an employee each pay period. Following that, they should transmit these withholdings to different tax agencies.

On the other hand, entrepreneurs must note that they can withhold the voluntary payroll deductions from the paycheck of an employee only if the latter has agreed to the same. These deductions contribute toward or pay for different benefits that an employee has opted to participate for.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”]

What Do a Business Owner’s Payroll Tax Obligations Consist of?

The payroll tax obligations of a business owner comprise a combination of these:

    • FICA taxes: A part of the taxes that business owners withhold from wages of employees are FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes, covering Medicare and Social Security contributions. Both the employees and the employer pay an equal share of FICA taxes.
    • Federal income tax withholding: Every employee should fill out a W-4 form to list their withholding exemptions, marital status, and other factors affecting withholding. Business owners use the IRS tax tables to calculate the amount to withhold. The main purpose is to arrive close to every employee’s year-end tax liability.
    • State and local payroll taxes: If the business is based in a state with a personal income tax, the employer will likely have state tax withholding and reporting obligations. Sometimes local tax withholding and reporting obligations are also applicable. A majority of the states allow a business owner to use reporting methods that are similar to those utilized for federal purposes.
    • Unemployment taxes (FUTA): By paying payroll tax depending on various factors, business owners are responsible for contributing to funding the unemployment tax system. These factors include the age and type of business, the unemployment claims filed against the business, and the amounts they pay employees.

It is imperative to keep in mind that if your organization lacks proper infrastructure related to risk management, HR, and payroll, you can face hassles to plan payroll tax. For that matter, you can consider us as a viable option to manage these key areas. Unemployment/Reemployment Requirements

    General liability requirements

A particular business is liable for state reemployment tax if any of the following applies to the concerned employer in the preceding or current calendar year:

    1. The business Is liable for the federal unemployment tax.
    2. It has paid a minimum wage of $1500 in a calendar quarter. This includes paying $800 each to two workers.
    3. It has had a minimum of 1 employee (this does not have to be the same employee) for any part of a day in 20 different weeks within the same calendar year.

Special liability requirements for some particular employer types

    • Governmental Entities

Coverage is extended towards employees from the state of Florida and any county, city or joint governmental unit.

    • Indian Tribes

As per s. 3306(u) of the Federal Unemployment Tax Act, coverage is extended towards employees for service that is carried out in the employment of an Indian tribe member. However, there are some conditions attached to this.

    • Agricultural Employers

For this, liable agricultural employers are those who paid cash wages amounting to $10000 in the preceding or current year in a calendar quarter. Or those individuals who have employed 5 or more workers for a part of a day in 20 different calendar weeks.

Business owners with liability under this provision should also report any other employees (excluding domestic workers). The other employees should be reported even if the paid wages were lower than $1,500 for any of the quarters or their employment was valid for less than 20 different weeks.

    • Domestic Employers

Business owners who paid wages of a minimum of $1,000 in the prior or current year in any one calendar quarter are liable to pay reemployment tax. These particularly imply business owners of organizations with employees who deliver domestic services – maintenance workers, maids, cooks, caretakers, butlers, house-parents, private yacht crews, chauffeurs, and social secretaries.

    • Non-profit Employers

Coverage is extended towards the non-profit organization (like scientific, religious, education, charitable, or literary groups) employees. These organizations include those that employ 4 or more workers for any part of a day in 20 different calendar weeks during the preceding or current calendar year. Some of the exceptions to this coverage are church schools and churches.

    Unemployment/Reemployment Deadlines

A majority of the employers pay both the state unemployment tax (SUTA) and federal unemployment tax (FUTA). Employers need to pay unemployment tax (which is now known as reemployment tax) using the form RT-6 (Employer’s Quarterly Report) quarterly to the Florida Department of Revenue. Typically, this form and any tax owed are due 30 days after each quarter ends.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”|||50px||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||0px|||”]

Given below is the due date schedule for unemployment reports:

    Quarter Months Due by
1st January to March 30th April
2nd April to June 31st July
3rd July to September 31st October
4th October to December 31st January

What Is a PEO Broker or PEO Consultant?

You can think of a PEO broker as someone who makes sure you get the most out of your PEO deal. But, what do we mean by this?

A professional employer organization (PEO) is considered the best fit for the company when they have better health insurance packages. Moreover, they offer employee benefit services, HR functions, and payroll. Besides comp rates and other benefits, they also have lower administration fees.

PEO brokers help achieve all these and save you time and money, which you might have spent otherwise to find one. So, basically, they do all the footwork involving contacting the best PEOs, analyzing the services offered by them, and unwinding complex terms to identify whether it provides the required amount of returns.

Is a PEO Broker a Person?

They are a mix of individuals who have in-depth knowledge of the field and enough experience in customer management, payroll, law, insurance, and human resources. The professionals pool these skills to provide the client with the best outcome.

What Is the Role of a PEO Broker?

A PEO broker’s task starts from initial analysis and continues even after enrollment, i.e., in the face of ‘after support.’ In addition, they also provide you with statistics like how much money they have saved for you using their experience and skills. It also includes other parameters like the number of employees experiencing better benefits and average savings made per client.

Now, talking about the processes, the PEO broker runs a comprehensive analysis. For instance, they consult about your needs, strategic goal, budget, in addition to including normal functions and premium services. Using this information, they find their clients the perfect PEO partners. In the end, a consolidation is made using their quotes to compare.

Form 1099 and Form W-2: Know How They Are Related to Payroll

If you are an entrepreneur, you need to issue Form W-2 and Form 1099 to your organization’s employees every year.

But are you aware of these two forms?

You can invite potential fines for yourself if you provide an incorrect form to your company’s employees. To avoid facing such issues, it is imperative to know the difference between Form 1099 and W-2 and how these are related to payroll.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

    What Is Form 1099?

There are several types of Form 1099, but all of them cater to the same purpose – taxpayers use them to provide information to the IRS (Internal Revenue System). This information is about the various kinds of income that individuals receive apart from the regular salary throughout a year.

To avoid an audit, taxpayers must report every outside income to the Internal Revenue System. This income can include investment dividends, freelance work compensation, or bank interest. Issuers of Form 1099 should send one copy to the taxpayer or recipient of the payments and another one to the IRS. Some issuers send their forms electronically, while some do it via mail.

Two common 1099 forms are 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC. Freelancers or independent contractors receive these forms to report the paid wages without taxes withheld to the IRS.

    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

    What Is Form W-2?

Also known as the Wage and Tax Statement, Form W-2 is a document that an employer needs to send to all employees and the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). Form W-2 reports the tax amount withheld from the paycheck and annual wages of the employees.

Employers should also use Form W-2 to report FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes for their employees throughout a year.

Form W-2 covers the following information for a tax year:

    • State Income: Amount that was withheld for state income taxes (if any)
    • Taxable Income: An employee’s income and the portion of that income that was withheld for federal taxes
    • Social Security and Medicare Income: Amount withheld for FICA taxes

Some more essential facts to keep in mind regarding Form W-2 include:

    • Earnings cover non-cash payments of $600 or more for a year
    • Form 1099 determines whether an individual makes a payment or gets a refund during tax season.
    • Employers should offer the employees copies of their W-2 forms by the end of January every year.
    [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.9.3″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

How Are Form 1099 and Form W-2 related to payroll?

A Form W-2 contains all information starting from the year’s first pay-check to the final processed payroll. Employees who receive this form receive an overview of all taxes withheld, deductions made for health insurance or retirement contributions for a calendar year and earned wages.

Typically, employers start to verify employee details in October and November to prepare for year-end processing and Form W-2 distribution to employees. The kind of information that must be verified include the following:

    • Employee addresses
    • Employee names
    • Social security numbers

After verifying or correcting this information, employers prepare to generate Form W-2 for its distribution in January. If employers use a provider that provides payroll tax compliance services, then this procedure can be as simple as making Form W-2 available to employees in an online portal for easy access.

A key difference exists between a Form W-2 and a Form 1099. The former is issued to an employee to report their payroll taxes and income withholding. And, the latter is given to an independent contractor to report income to the IRS.
